Your memory of the day is optimistic.

You remember the long stretch of real work. You forget the dozen small detours around it. Manual timers only know what you remembered to start, and screen-time reports stop at the app name.

Chronos keeps the record for you, so the answer to "where did today go?" is a fact, not a feeling.

Deep work came to 5h 17m. Good to know, before you plan tomorrow as if it were eight.

Set it up once. Then forget it's there.

Setup takes a few minutes. After that there is nothing to start, stop or remember.

  1. Add the browser extension

Load it in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Arc or Firefox and paste your token once. It records the active tab's address, title and time.

Integrations → Browser tabs → Download
  2. Connect your desktop apps

Install ActivityWatch, the free open-source tracker, then run the Chronos sync. One Python file, no packages to install.

    python chronos-aw-sync.py --setup
  3. Let the rules sort it

Deep Work, Meetings, Learning, Exercise and Rest are ready on day one. Add a rule and Chronos re-sorts your last 30 days.

Built to get the number right.

A tracker is only useful if you trust its total. These are the parts that make the total honest.

Never counted twice

Your browser shows up twice: once as a desktop app, once as tabs. Chronos keeps the tab detail and drops the duplicate window time, so an hour in Chrome counts as one hour.

Away time is subtracted

Away-time filtering depends on ActivityWatch's AFK watcher. The desktop sync pauses when AFK data is missing or stale. Explicit recovery can skip historical watcher gaps and resume later healthy activity, with gap receipts kept on your device. Skipped windows can leave missing history. Older records and manual timers can still include away time.

Nothing quietly disappears

Anything without a rule lands in Uncategorized, and the biggest unsorted apps and sites are listed for one-click sorting.

Rules do the sorting

Match on app, domain, URL or window title. A YouTube tutorial goes to Learning while the rest of YouTube goes to Rest. First match wins, and the specific rule beats the general one.

Any range, every session editable

Today, this week, the last 90 days or dates you pick. Zone totals, daily history, and every session open to correction.

Focus tools on the same timeline

When you want to work on purpose, the tools are built in, and everything they time lands in the same record.

A record of your day, for you.

Chronos exists to help you understand your own time. It is not built to watch anyone else's, and it only collects what it needs to answer one question: where did the time go?

What it records

  • The active tab's domain; paths and titles are optional
  • The active desktop app's name; window titles are optional
  • When each one started and stopped
  • The zones, rules and timers you create

What it never records

  • Screenshots or screen recordings
  • Keystrokes, form input or clipboard contents
  • Mouse movement, camera or microphone
  • Anything for advertisers. Your data is not sold or shared for ads

Export or delete, any time

Settings provides a snapshot export with category counts as JSON or CSV, account deletion and device revocation, including after trial expiry.

Tokens you control

Each browser and computer connects with its own token. Revocation stops future cloud uploads; local records stay on that device.

Away-time filtering has limits

Desktop sync requires healthy AFK data. Explicit recovery skips historical watcher gaps with local receipts and can leave missing history. Older records and manual timers can still include away time.

Optional paths and titles can reveal document names or search text. Older retained full URLs may contain search queries. Current collectors strip URL query strings and default to domain-only capture.

The details are in plain English in our privacy policy.

7 days, everything included, no card.

The trial is the full product. No feature gates, no payment details, nothing to cancel.

  1. Day 1

Install the extension and the desktop sync. By the evening you have your first timeline.

  2. Day 7

A full week, sorted into zones. Enough to see your real patterns, not one odd day.

  3. After the trial

The app locks and asks what you thought. Join the waitlist to get founding-member pricing when paid plans open.

Common questions

Do I have to start a timer?

No. Once the browser extension and desktop sync are running, Chronos records on its own. The manual timer is there for time away from the screen, like calls, reading on paper or a run.

Do I need ActivityWatch?

Only for desktop apps. The browser extension captures active tabs while the browser is focused and you're active. Add ActivityWatch, the free open-source tracker, for editors, design tools and other desktop apps. Desktop sync needs a healthy AFK watcher.

Which browsers and computers does it work on?

The extension runs in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Arc and Firefox. The desktop sync is a small Python script that runs wherever ActivityWatch does: Windows, macOS and Linux. Windows gets a one-command installer that starts it at login.

Does Chronos take screenshots or record keystrokes?

No. Current collectors capture domains and app names by default. Paths and titles are optional and can contain personal details or search text; older retained full URLs may include query strings. Chronos does not capture screenshots, keystrokes, form input, clipboard contents or mouse movement.

Can my employer use this to monitor me?

Chronos is built for individuals tracking their own time. There are no team dashboards, manager views or reports sent to anyone else. Your account, your data.

What if a session lands in the wrong zone?

While tracking access is active, edit the session in Analytics or change a rule and re-apply it to the last 30 days. Explicit session edits and deletions survive reclassification. Archiving a zone keeps its history.

What happens when the trial ends?

After 7 days, new tracking and editing pause. History, snapshot exports, account deletion, device revocation, feedback, support, stopping a running timer and sign-out stay available. You can join the paid-launch waitlist from Settings.

How much will Chronos cost?

Pricing isn't set yet. Founding-member pricing will be announced at launch, and people on the waitlist hear about it first.
