Terms of service
Last updated 8 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use Chronos. We've kept them short and readable. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.
The service
Chronos is a time-tracking service operated by an independent developer based in New Delhi, India ("we", "us"). It includes the web app, the browser extension, the desktop sync script, and the API they use. Some features depend on third-party software, such as ActivityWatch, which has its own license and terms.
Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to use Chronos.
- Keep your password and API tokens private. You're responsible for activity under your account and tokens.
- Revoke any token you think has leaked from the Integrations page.
- One person per account. Accounts are for your own use.
Free trial and paid plans
- New accounts get a free 7-day trial with full access. We don't ask for payment details for the trial and nothing renews automatically.
- When the trial ends, tracking and editing stop. History, export, account deletion, device revocation, feedback, support and sign-out remain available. You can still stop a running timer.
- Paid plans will be announced later. Prices and terms for paid plans will be shown before you buy, and you'll never be charged without choosing a plan yourself. Joining the waitlist doesn't commit you to anything.
Acceptable use
Don't use Chronos to:
- Track another person without their knowledge and consent.
- Break the law, or send data you don't have the right to send.
- Attack, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service or its API, or get around its limits.
- Resell or provide the service to others without our written permission.
We may suspend accounts that break these rules, and we'll tell you why unless the law prevents it.
Your data
Your tracking data belongs to you. You give us permission to store and process it only to run the service for you, as described in our privacy policy. You can export it or delete it at any time.
Accuracy
We work hard to make totals correct, but tracking depends on your browser, your operating system and ActivityWatch reporting accurately. Chronos is a tool for understanding your own time. Don't rely on it as the sole record for billing clients, payroll or legal purposes without checking the numbers yourself.
Desktop sync requires healthy ActivityWatch AFK data and pauses when it is missing or stale. Explicit recovery can skip historical windows with missing or stale watcher coverage, record local gap receipts and continue to later healthy activity. Skipped windows can leave gaps in your history; recovery does not upload uncertified activity. Older records and manual timers can include away time. Current collectors default to domains with titles off. Optional paths and titles can contain personal details or search text, and older retained full URLs may contain search queries.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep Chronos running smoothly but can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change, add or remove features. If we make a change that significantly affects you, or decide to shut the service down, we'll give you reasonable notice by email and time to export your data.
Liability
Chronos is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or lost data, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or INR 1,000 if you haven't paid us anything. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.
Ending your use
You can stop using Chronos at any time and delete your account yourself from Settings. We may close accounts that break these terms, or after a long period of inactivity following a trial, with notice.
Cloud erasure revokes tokens first, removes your tracking data, settings, submitted feedback and linked waitlist entry, then removes sign-in. A paused deletion can be retried and a minimal erasure receipt remains for restore protection. Local ActivityWatch data, extension queues and downloaded files require removal on your devices. Export includes the categories listed in our Privacy Policy and excludes credentials and hashes.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of New Delhi, India.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll email account holders before they take effect. Continuing to use Chronos after that means you accept the new terms.
